You're kidding me?

In case you haven't seen this yet. I've only watched it about 10 times now and I laugh every single time.

Mother's Day

Hope that you have an amazing day Mama! I'm excited to be reunited again soon. xoxoxo

A busy month

So the month of April has been a very busy one. I started the month with a short visit to Kansas City. I basically enjoyed some much needed time with my family and the good food that goes along with them. I also spent some great time with friends. The friends that have been through it all with you and for whom it is such a comfort to return to. It always feels good to be in Kansas City and sad to leave so soon. My friend Niki even made the trip to Kansas City to visit for the day. We unknowingly wore almost the exact outfit. It seemed to be a fluke until we both pulled out a gray long sleeved cardigan to wear when we got cold. Kindred spirits I suppose.

I then left Kansas City to meet Aaron in Little Rock to visit our niece Ann Elizabeth for the first time. She is pretty much amazing and Aaron and I were in awe of her. She is one beautiful baby and we feel so proud to be her Aunt and Uncle and to get to see her grow-up.

Here we are holding her for the first time.

Uncle Aaron

Can you tell that I'm just a little excited to be holding this sweet baby?

When we returned to California we had just a few days before my sister Jamie and my dear friend Heidi came out to visit. This was such an amazing girls trip...and made us commit to doing a getaway each year. We had so much fun just relaxing and hanging out. We got manis/pedis, went to ikea, shopping in Santa Monica, and then went to this amazing day spa where we laid out by the pool and got a bit burnt. We ate lots of good food and had a lot of good conversation. In the midst of it all there was a slight tumble which resulted in a hurt ankle (Jamie) and a separate incident that resulted in a mild concussion (yours truly) but all in all it was a sweet visit. The next morning after they had left there was a sad feeling of friends gone. An absence of sorts.

Here is a snapshot of us at the end of our day at Glen Ivy Spa.

Next I went to spend a night in San Diego with my friend Kelsey. Here was our view towards the end of the day. There is something about sitting with a friend on the beach with the waves crashing in and talking about life. It was definitely a sweet memory and I'm grateful to have this time of living so close to Kelsey.

Finally, Aaron and I had a weekend back in Santa Monica alone. We went out to eat at Roy's Seafood in downtown Los Angeles thanks to a generous gift certificate that our friend Mike got us for Christmas. It was amazing to indulge in a fancy dinner and then we went to see Water for Elephants. I recommend both! Easter Sunday we went to church and then we took the time to enjoy a little of God's creation by hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains which showcased a beautiful view of the Santa Monica coast.

Finally, our month ended with a trip to the East Coast for a wedding of a childhood friend of Aaron's. Things got off to a bit of a rocky start. As our plane was speeding down the runway and just taking flight I had a "Home Alone" moment. I just then remembered that we forgot to leave a key for our friend Rachel to get into the apartment to house sit and watch Macy Gray. I was a wreck for the whole 4 hour flight. Fortunately Aaron didn't go behind me and shut the windows that I purposely opened to cool off the apartment and Rachel was able to climb through the window and save the day. It wasn't one of our better moments and we pretty much felt like the worst parents ever. We finally got into D.C. around midnight and drove a couple of hours to the wedding location which was on a lake in Virginia. We stayed with some of the grooms college friends in an awesome lake house and enjoyed the sun and the chance to meet some of Jake's friends. The wedding was at the couple's lake house and was sweet and personal. There was a lot of dancing under the stars and plenty of drinks to go around. We unfortunately had to leave the lake house early on Sunday morning to fly to Salt Lake city for a sports medicine conference.

Here is the view flying into Salt Lake.

Aaron spent the majority of the time in the conference and I caught up on work in the hotel room but we had some great lunches and dinners in downtown Salt Lake. On the last day of the trip we had a few free hours to explore the city. This was my first time to visit Salt Lake City and I was amazed at how the mountains literally encircle the city. The streets were immaculate and there were spring flowers blooming throughout the city.

We are now back home and trying to get back in the swing of things. Aaron has had the weekend off so we are enjoying time with Macy and are catching up on Dexter Season 3. We're now looking forward to Andrea visiting on Wednesday after she wraps up her last final!

See, I told you it's been a busy month! So I think that I'm getting the hang of this blogging thing but now need to work on blogging as life happens. We'll see how I do!

An 8 Month Recap

I'm back! It's been a busy few weeks with traveling to Kansas City and Little Rock and we now have visitors! I'll blog more about the last few weeks soon and all of our friends and family that we've gotten to spend time with. Until then, here is a little video that I put together a while back of pictures of our first 8 months here in California. I finally figured out how to add music in honor of seeing this guy at a Culver City cafe a few weeks ago! I mean...Sandy Cohen?? How is that for a celebrity sighting? My friend Rachel and I sat only a few feet away from him. His eyebrows are just as impressive in person if you were wondering! Anyway, I wanted to show a little snapshot of our last 8 months. Our long drive from Columbia to our life here in California. I also included some pictures of visitors but unfortunately my lack of documentation left many wonderful visitors out! We have been blessed to have this experience here in L.A. and love the fact that so many have made the trip out to visit!

Late to the party

Hi friends!

So after a year or so of contemplating my arrival into the blog world I have finally decided to bite the bullet and jump on board. Why now you ask? I'm afraid that I've gotten the reputation as one who is not the best at the documentation of my life. I've been known to look down at my camera at the end of a vacation and realize I've only taken a couple of snapshots. So I guess I'm one who likes to live in the moment. But the thing is, yesterday I realized that we have lived in California for over 8 months and it scared me to think how fast life is flying by. I want to work on preserving memories and so this is my attempt. I also want to get over myself and realize that the blog doesn't have to be perfect and the blog police will not arrest me if I don't post every day (or week). I do however, want to commit to being genuine and authentic in my blogging. This is a place where I can be myself...and if that means posting about cute animal videos then I will do it. Ha! This blog almost didn't get off the ground as I was trying to brainstorm a creative title. I mean really, how can a blog be successful without an original title? Well as you can see, I decided to call it what it is. And hey, it must be original since it was still available, right?

Well, this will also be my spot to share the things I'm currently into, the links I love around the web, good food, design, pretty things, and other musings about life. It will also allow me to improve my writing skills (hello grammar!) and learn a thing or two about the technicalities of blogging. I'm not overly computer savvy so I look forward to learning as I go. Any tips are welcome!
